Hebron Public Schools, under IDEA, actively seeks to locate, identify, and refer children from birth to grade 6 who require special education and related services in order to assist them and their families. If you are concerned about a child's development, you are encouraged to contact the Department of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services to receive information about Developmental Screenings. If the child is younger than 3 years of age, you may chose instead to contact the Connecticut Birth to Three System at 1-800-505-7000.

If a parent or a staff member is concerned about a student enrolled at Gilead Hill School or at Hebron Elementary School, the parent or staff member may request that the concerns be reviewed at a Grade Level Data Team (Data Team) meeting. At the Data Team meeting, the team members will review the child's progress in school, review classroom data, progress monitoring data, and the results of universal screens. The team will discuss and document all the techniques and strategies in use currently to assist the student. The Data Team may provide additional strategies to the general education teacher to implement. This may include accommodations to the child's educational program. The Data Team will assign a timeline to review the student's case and determine the effectiveness of the strategies and techniques recommended. The Data Team process supports students in the general education setting and is distinctly different than the Planning and Placement Team process which is to refer and plan for students with special education needs.

Referrals to Special Education will be considered by school personnel, parents, and other outside professionals with parent permission.
