Asbestos Management Plans

This notification is required by the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA, 40 CFR Part 763 of Title II of the Toxic Substance Control Act).

These plans are available and accessible to the public at each individual facility as well as the Hebron Administrative Office.


Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Management Plan

The health, comfort, and learning environment of students and staff are important aspects of Hebron Public School's mission. Working with EPA and their IAQ Tools for Schools Program, we developed an IAQ Management Plan that will help monitor and improve the quality of air in school buildings. The objectives of this IAQ Management Plan are:

  • Reduce the levels of indoor air pollutants through preventive measure such as routine maintenance activities, periodic building evaluations and inspections, and IAQ-specific policies.

  • Provide and maintain adequate airflow by repairing and maintaining ventilation equipment, which will promote a comfortable and healthy learning and working environment.

  • Respond to IAQ-related concerns and problems in a prompt and thorough manner, and effectively communicate the progress of investigations and their resolution to all interested parties.

Chemical Hygiene Plan

It is the intention of Hebron Public Schools to comply fully in a prudent manner with all occupational safety and health standards/regulations. Consequently, this program to comply with the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Hazard Communication Standard 29 CFR 1910.1200 will be implemented and enforced.    

Copies of the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all hazardous chemicals to which employees of this company may be exposed will be in the school offices. These MSDS/SDS sheets will be available to all employees for review during each work shift.

When ordering a new chemical, it is the responsibility of Facilities Director to assure that the MSDS/SDS file is kept up to date.

Employees who would like a copy of a MSDS/SDS for specific chemical(s) should contact the Facilities Director.

It is the policy of Hebron Public Schools to provide a Chemical Hygiene Plan training program to all employees at the time of a new employee's initial assignment, and whenever a new hazard is introduced into the workplace. This information and training program will include:

  • An overview of the requirements contained in the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

  • Chemicals present in workplace operations

  • Location and availability of our written Chemical Hygiene Plan, including our list of hazardous chemicals and safety data sheets

  • Methods and observation techniques used to determine the presence or release of chemicals in the work area

  • How to lessen or prevent exposure to these chemicals through usage of control/work practices and personal protective equipment

  • Steps the company has taken to lessen or prevent exposure to these chemicals

  • Safety emergency procedures to follow if they are exposed to these chemicals

  • How to read labels on shipped containers and an explanation of the workplaces' labeling system.

  • How to read and obtain information from a SDS and how to understand the order of information presented on a SDS

It will be the responsibility of the Facilities Director to implement the training program and maintain the training records.

When it is necessary for an outside contractor to perform work at Hebron Public Schools, it shall be the responsibility of the Facilities Director to inform the contractor of the identity of any hazardous chemicals to which the contractor may be exposed.

It is also the responsibility of Facilities Director to determine if the contractor will be using any hazardous chemicals and, if so, to take appropriate actions to assure the protection of the Hebron Public Schools employees.

Prior to starting work on hazardous non routine tasks, every affected employee will be given information by the Facilities Director about the hazardous chemical(s) to which they may be exposed. Such information will include, but not be limited to the specific hazards associated with the chemical(s), protective measures (i.e. personal protective equipment, work practices, engineering controls etc.) and emergency procedures.


Pest Management 

The Hebron Board of Education has developed an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan based on the guidelines in Public Act 99-165.

The goal of IPM is to deliver effective pest control while at the same time reducing the volume and toxicity of pesticide used as well as human and environmental exposure to pesticides. Each school will contract monthly monitoring to aid in the early detection of pest problems. Both physical and cultural solution will be employed to decrease our reliance on pesticides. When chemical treatments are required, pesticidal baits will be utilized first whenever practical. Problems requiring further treatments or situations when baits are not practical will be treated using products from an established hierarchy starting with the least toxic products first.

All pesticides will be applied by licensed applicators with either a supervisory certification or an operational certification under the direction of a supervisor. Emergency applications may be made by staff providing they are not restricted use pesticides.

Staff, parents, and guardians may register at the school to be notified 24 hours prior to the application of a pesticide (excluding baits). Emergency applications to correct an immediate threat to the health of students or staff will be notified by any means practical on or before the day of the application.
